Summer Sublet near Columbia
Hi, I have 1 bdrm in a 2 bdrm convert that I am subletting for summer 2009 (June 1-July 31st). The place is on W96 (right by the express train and only a 10-min train ride or 25 min walk from Columbia University). Rent is $1295/month, not including utilities that usually run ~$50 or less a month.
ABOUT THE PLACE: you’d be living with a 28 year old F graduate student who is very respectful & very easy/nice to live with. The room is small (as is everything in NY) but fits a full bed, desk and some bookshelves pretty nicely. There’s also a hall closet that’s all yours. There is a double bed in the room that is also available for sale if you like. There is laundry in the basement and an elevator in the building. According to our landlord, you would need to sign your name onto the lease and pay both months rent upfront ($2590). The security fee is only $216 and is refundable pending the apt is left in the condition it is when you arrive.
ABOUT YOU: Looking for a female student; someone who is laid back, friendly, clean and respectful of common spaces. No smoke/pets/loud parties/permanent guests… the usual. If you’re interested and would like to come by to see the place, just let me know. I can also send pics upon request.
Thanks!

We have an open room in our 3BR in Park Slope. Ideal move-in date range: 5/1 - 5/15.
The apartment is on the second floor of a 105-year old brownstone on 5th Street and 6th Ave. in Park Slope. It has a large living room with a fireplace, a large outside deck, communal walk-in closet space, and a study nook.
The open room’s dimensions are 7′ X 12′ (fits a full/queen bed, desk, bookcase, etc.) One of the walls is almost entirely made up of built-in closet space. Rent for the room is $900 + cable/internet/electricity (around $60-70/month).
Other than being a generally pleasant guy/girl, we do not have too many living requirements. Vegetarians are preferred.
Your would-be apartment mates are two friendly 20-something male professionals, one of whom is a lawyer doing a federal clerkship, the other works at a nonprofit organization and goes to the j-school part-time.
Send me an email at scottolster[at]gmail.com if you are interested. Thanks!

Furnished, comfortable room for rent for the month of June in a four bedroom apartment on 123rd and Broadway, just six blocks from Columbia University’s main campus. Queen sized bed (and sooo comfortable), with a dresser, a desk, and a nice sized closet. Completely furnished so just bring your toiletries and towels, and you’re all set. You will be sharing with three journalism graduate students (great guys) who are extremely fun and friendly, but will be working over the summer and will hardly be around. Living room is enormous, nicely furnished, and kitchen is also huge with brand new appliances, tons of counter space. It’s a first floor apartment in a nice pre-war building. Quiet street, cafes and restaurants right around the corner, a couple blocks from the 125th St. 1 line stop. All utilities included (Internet, ConEd, Cable TV). No deposit required. Please e-mail me, tell me a little about yourself and your situation, and let’s set up a time for you to see the place. Columbia students preferred, but open to any other professionals as well.

I’m looking for people who want to go in on a decent but very cheap apartment in July — three to five bedrooms and rent of $800 or less per person. Given those requirements, this apartment is probably somewhere in Brooklyn, though Queens, Harlem, and Morningside Heights are also on the table.
About me: I’m a graduating student from the MA program, and I’ll be staying around New York to freelance and do some odd jobs around the J-school. Ideal roommates would be fine with a friend spending a few nights on the couch or a dish or two left occasionally in the sink — but not squalor in the fridge and beer pong in the kitchen. This would be a group house, not a group home.
Dogs ok. Non-students ok. Both genders welcome.

I am looking for a roommate for a great apartment on 65 W 130th St. Its a modern 2 bedroom in a brownstone building, on a quiet tree-lined block of brownstones. Rent is $900 per person per month ($1800 total).
I am a 25 year old male doing the SIPA/Journalism dual degree program, and starting at the J School this fall. The place will be available beginning at any time in August. Both males and females are welcome to inquire, as long as you’re responsible, easygoing, and have good credit.
My email is sashafc at gmail.com.

Large light-filled room for rent, three blocks from the J School. Available NOW, until Jan. 15, 2010. Share kitchen, large living room with desk, stereo. High ceilings. Don’t settle for cramped grad student quarters. This is a comfortable apartment in an excellent building, five minutes from school. Rent $1050, all included. Call 202 222 8476 or jcd35@columbia.edu.

Headed to J-School this fall? Don’t have a long-term lease yet? All you want to do is sublet my convenient-to-Columbia apartment from August 1 through August 31 before September 1, (when longer-term apartment leases become available) or if you liked my place you can become my roommate. It is a two bedroom apartment and I am looking to rent out both bedrooms (hopefully two J-School students) for the moth of August. I will be traveling and will come back to my room September 1. So after September 1 only one bedroom will be available for rent
Please see link for pictures and more details.

I’m looking to sublet my bedroom in a two-bdr apartment on a safe, pretty block near Columbia from July 1 to August 1. At that point, whoever moves in would have the option of signing a year-long lease.
The apartment is in a prewar building on 105th St. between Riverside and West End. It’s a very safe block adjacent to Riverside Park and a short walk to Columbia– I moved there when I was a J-school student and it was perfect.
My room is fairly good-sized– there’s plenty room for a Queen-sized bed and a bureau. The room also has a very large closet. There’s laundry across the hall which I found to be very convenient.
The kitchen and living room also are fairly spacious.
My current roommate, a 25-year-old social worker, likely will be living in the apartment for the summer.
If interested, email me at candacetaylor54@hotmail.com.

oh, also, the rent is $1,150 a month.
Thanks,

This is the apartment I lived in while in J-school last year, and now my roommate is looking for people to live with her this year. It’s a great place — pretty convenient to Columbia, but cheaper than the places right near school. Her name is Olivia, and you can email her at baileyoliviao [at] gmail [dot] com.
I have two rooms available in my Washington Heights apartment. The rooms are available August 1st. The apartment is three bedrooms with bathroom, kitchen, and two common rooms. The bedrooms are fairly small, but the living room and dining room are fairly large, so there’s plenty of space. All three bedrooms have closets and hardwood floors. The apartment is located a short walk from the 168th street subway stop, where you can catch the A, C, or 1, so it’s a quick trip to midtown. It’s also nearby a gym, laundromat, grocery stores, restaurants and several parks.
Rent is $533 a month, plus utilities and Internet.
The lease expires May 2010 and I am preferably looking for someone to stay that long.
You’ll be living with a twenty-something year-old female who is an international studies student at City College. I’m looking for people who are clean and respectful of space/quiet.

FIRST SEMESTER SUBLET — Close to Campus, Central Park
For rent: a large, unfurnished bedroom with tremendous closet space. You’d be living in a notably spacious, bright, clean and well-furnished Upper West Side apartment with three roommates: a guy in the bedroom across the hall (with whom you’d share a bathroom), and a couple in the master bedroom (which has its own). The living room is huge and the kitchen is quite decent. We’re all ‘07 J-school grads and we all work in media.
Location: 92nd and Amsterdam (2 blocks to the 123 subway line, also convenient to the B and C). Rent: $1170 + 25% cable and Con. Ed. Security: 1 month’s rent. You’d pay Sept. through Dec. (lease ends the 31st), but you could probably move in around the 20th of August.
