  2. I am a graduating MA student looking to sublet my room for June, July and August, and to find someone to take it over for next school year (this can obviously be the same person if someone needs a room for next school year starting in June). My apartment is located on Columbus Ave between 104th and 105th streets (a 12-15 minute easy walk to campus). It’s a three bedroom, 1.5 bath LARGE apartment with beautifully painted walls and a cozy, stylish decor (thanks to my awesome roommate). My two roommates will be staying in the apartment for next year, and they are both very nice and fun SIPA students who like to make dinner, drink a glass of wine, talk and watch tv, but who are also always really busy with work. I found them on craigslist and couldn’t have hoped for better people to live with for my year here. My room is pretty big, with well enough space for a double bed, dresser and desk (which, by the way, are all for sale), and it has a large closet with a loft-like storage space above, as well as a big window overlooking Columbus Ave. It is $945 a month, plus utilities and internet, which come to about $50 a month. The building is in the middle of being renovated, but the apartment was redone a couple years ago and has new wood floors and even a dishwasher. This makes up for it being a third-floor walk-up.
My roommates are looking for a girl, preferably, who is in school, friendly, clean and low-key. They seem to get a kick out of journalists, so they are hoping I can find an entering MA or MS-er to replace myself with :) .

Please let me know if you would like to see photos or if you are in town and want to stop by.
    Thanks,
    Katie

  3. Two rooms available in a three bedroom apartment starting June 1st. On 109th, with Central Park and B/C subway line down the road and 1 line a few blocks away. 10 mins walk to school. Bonus feature: has its own washing machine and dryer!

We’re willing to sell you some of the furniture (couch, extra kitchen shelves, one bed) and loan you some more for the rest of the summer (other bed and maybe a bureau)

The third room might be available too, tba. If not, you’ll have a supreme J-schooler to live with. He’ll leave the light on for you if you come home late.

$1100/room. Contact mathildepiard or julie.onufrak, both at gmail.

  7. Three MS ‘06 students are leaving their wonderful apartment in Brooklyn. We’d love it if we could hand it over to three more j-schoolers. Here’s the info:

    3 BR, 1 BATH available June 1

The top two floors of a four-story brick rowhouse in Bedford-Stuyvesant/Clinton Hill. Bedrooms are huge (11′ x 16′), very sunny. The whole apartment except the kitchen and bathroom has wood floors. In addition to the 3BRs, there’s also a living room, kitchen, and two small rooms which we use for a tv room and a storage room.

Rent is $725 per person, which includes cable (with HBO!) and wireless internet. Gas and electricity are separate, and are about $20 a month all together. A lot of our furniture is up for grabs. Address is 102 Monroe. We’re five blocks from the Franklin C stop, six blocks from the Bedford-Nostrand G stop, and eight blocks from the Nostrand A stop. The landlords live downstairs and are a dream. The lease runs through the end of August, with an option to renew after that. Pictures upon request.

  8. Washington Heights 1 bedroom, available June 1, $800
I’m moving and looking for someone to take over my 1 bedroom in a three bedroom apartment in Washington Heights, available June 1.

Rent is $800 a month. The apartment is on the sixth floor of a six story, elevator building, a few minutes walk to the A/C and 1 trains. The room is roughly 12 by 10, sunny, hardwood floors. The apartment has 1 1/2 baths, kitchen, living room/office and large entryway. My two male roomates are awesome. One is away more than half the time as he runs a nonprofit. The second is a fun, respectful, creative type. Both are very considerate. The apartment is at 172 and Haven Avenue, with views of the Hudson and GW Bridge.

If you’d like to know more about the place, please email me.

I’m looking to sublet a room in my apartment on West 109th street between Broadway and Amsterdam. Monthly rent plus utilities (electricity, gas, broadband and cable) is $850 a month. Move-in date is June 1, and I’m giving preference to someone who is willing to split the lease until September 1, 2009. Rent will stay consistent through that time. I am asking for first and last month’s rent upfront—a total of $1700.
About me— 27-year-old male who works, against his better judgment, in media. I’ll likely be taking graduate classes in the fall, so chances are, you’ll barely see me. I travel often for work and am usually out of town for at least a week out of every month. Very important—absolutely no cigarettes in the apartment, no hard drug use, no pets. Also, I’m not a huge fan of guests sleeping on the couch but can deal with one or two guests a year or something like that. Great neighborhood! Close to transportation! It’s a total find.

  12. My roommates and I found the perfect 5 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn and we’re looking for a fifth roommate. The apartment is on the second and third floors of a beautiful house in landmark status with a huge garden, huge parking space, a front lawn, a porch and a lot of sunshine. In our portion of the house, there are 5 bedrooms - all reasonably-sized-, two big bathrooms, an attic and a huge living room with an open kitchen. It has a separate entrance and we have full access to the garden and to the parking space.
The house is located on the tree-lined East 17th Street between Cortelyou and Beverly Roads, one block away from the Q train and Cortelyou Road, a lively street with lots of shops and food stores. It’s a 10-min walk to Prospect Park and a 20-min commute to Union Square.
The rent is $950 per person, and we’re starting on June 1st. We’d like someone to sign into the lease but subletters for the summer are also welcome.

  15. here’s the full craigslist post (with pics): http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/abo/672944891.html

Good-sized (650-700 sq feet) 2 bedroom in prospect heights available June 1st. $1699 + utilities. It’s new, there’s no fee, it’s in a great building in a great area, and it’s one of the most subway accessible apartments in Brooklyn (seriously, like 8 lines within 6 block radius).

My roommate and I are moving our in the middle of our lease (I got a job up in Boston, he doesn’t want to live with some random), and we’re looking for someone to sign a new 1-year lease. The only fee involved is a 50 buck credit check.

If you sign a lease now, you’ll get out rent rate — $1699 — other units in our building are already going for $2000+ so it’s not a bad deal.

The apartment is a in a great, new elevator building in Prospect Heights, and our management office is just across the street, in another property they own (and also where my roommate decided to move, bc the management co is pretty great). We were the first folks to move into this apartment 18 months ago, just as the building was being converted into apartments. There’s garage parking in the building for about $100-150 a month, if you’ve got a car). There’s a garbage chute and a super that lives in the building. Oh, and the walls are pretty much soundproof — you rarely hear the neighbors, they rarely hear you (though it is a friendly building, with a mix of younger folks, families, old folks, the whole spectrum).

It has one big bedroom (like queen sized bed and futon with plenty of extra room big) and one smaller one (still you could fit a queen, a dresser and a desk). A living room with kitchenette and a medium-sized bathroom. It’s on the ninth floor and has a large balcony and AC/Heat electrical units in every room.

One of the best things: you’re 5 blocks from the 2/3/4/5 subway, 5 blocks in the other direction from the A/C subway, and about 8 blocks from the B/Q subway – or you can just walk one block to the Franklin Ave Shuttle and take that to any of those subway lines.

  16. Hello there,

My roommate, a SIPA student, and I, a graduating MS Jschooler, are subletting our furnished 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment on 112th and St. Nicholas for the New York summer, June, July and August. The year-long lease ends in August. It’s $2,000 a month, receives lots of natural light (plants thrive), has lots of space, and is serviced by an elevator.

Newly renovated with hardwood floors, this well-lit apartment has a large living room, one large and one medium bedroom, a nice kitchen and one bathroom. Natural light enters through numerous windows. Closets in each bedroom and hallways.

The apartment is two short blocks to Central Park and the quick 2,3 express trains to downtown (at 110th and Lenox). A little farther to the B,C stop at 110.

About a 15-minute walk to Columbia through Morningside Park.

Grocery store and laundry less than a block away.

Please email with your inquiries and I’ll get right back to you.

  17. $775 Roommate Needed for a Nice 2 Bedroom Starting July (Harlem / Morningside)

This is a nice bright 2 bedroom apartment with a full living room, kitchen and bathroom. It is just a half block from the subway on 137th and Broadway. It is also a half block from Morningside Park. I need a roommate that can apply for and sign the one year lease for the place, because I will be leaving in about 8 months. I am a young guy that just graduated from Columbia University. I work in the health sciences. I hope to find a young responsible person like myself. Oh and the pictures are of the livingroom and the bedroom which will be yours. The furniture and stuff in that bedroom won’t be there, except for maybe the bed. And utilities come to about $30 a month extra. Contact me at twj2101@columbia.edu

  18. I have two rooms available in my Washington Heights apartment. Both rooms are available beginning July 1. The apartment is three bedrooms with bathroom, kitchen, and two common rooms. The bedrooms are fairly small, but the living room and dining room are fairly large, so there’s plenty of space. All three bedrooms have closets and new wood floors. The apartment is located a short walk from the 168th street subway stop, where you can catch the A,C, or 1, so it’s a quick trip to midtown. It’s also nearby a gym, grocery stores, restaurants, and several parks.

Rent is $508 a month, plus utilities and Internet/cable.

I’m a 26-year-old female, and will am starting the M.S. program in journalism at Columbia in August. I’m looking for people who are clean, respectful of space/quiet, and fun to live with.

  24. Hi everyone,

I’m a 30-year-old M.S./newspaper student whose roommate will be leaving our East Village apartment at the end of July.

So, I have a bedroom available in a great apartment if anyone’s interested in sharing.

Con: It’s about a half hour from campus.

Pro: It’s in what I think is a fantastic neighborhood — lots of trees, nice people and interesting things to do.

The apartment itself is around 700 square feet. There’s a decent-sized living area with a sofa, three chairs and a bookshelf. There’s a good-sized, fully stocked kitchen (with a small dishwasher). And the bedrooms — equally sized — are very large. Mine has a queen-sized bed, a desk, two bookshelves, a chair and there’s still room for more. They both also have good-sized closets and above-closet “loft” spaces that are good for suitcases and extra storage.

There’s a large window air conditioning unit in the living room; I also have a small window unit in my room. (You’re welcomed to put one in your room, too, of course. Though you likely won’t need one.)

The apartment building is a pre-war walk-up; the unit itself was completely renovated just last year.

    Rent: $1,225/mo.
Utilities/Cable+Internet: around $100/mo., depending on the season.
    Deposit: one month’s rent

Also: I have a cat who’s very nice and well-behaved, and who will want to be your friend. It’d be great if you love animals, and will welcome him into your space. During the days, he likes to sit on one of the windowsills in what would be your room.

And: I’m not “laid-back,” as many people like to say when describing themselves to potential roommates. I’d like to think I’m really nice, but I’m also pretty serious. I’ll be busy with school — as I’m sure you will be, too — so I’d like to find a person who won’t mind sharing a meal, having a discussion or watching a movie, but who will promise not to turn the place into one big party. (I write this because my last roommate brought people home at all hours of the night, etc. You get my point.)

Oh, and I’m a male. Originally from the Midwest, though I’ve been in New York for three years. I’m also gay, but, like I said, not at *all* into a party scene. Been in a relationship for six years with a fellow who lives in Brooklyn.

If you’re interested, please let me know and I’ll tell you more about the place!

    Thanks!

  25. Headed to J-School this fall? Don’t have a long-term lease yet? All you want to do is sublet my convenient-to-Columbia apartment from August 9/10 (right before J-School orientation) through August 30/31 (right before September 1, when longer-term apartment leases become available).

My sun-flooded, 600-square-foot, one-bedroom apartment is renting for $1,200 for those three weeks. The price includes high-speed wireless Internet access and the use of spanking-new appliances (a stereo, dishwasher, washer/dryer combo, refrigerator, and gas stove).

Skylight? Check. Clawfoot tub? Check. Asian furniture and Buddha sculptures and silk pillows and plants bursting with green health? You got ‘em. There’s a little bedroom balcony where you can survey Sugar Hill, this historic part of Harlem. It’s quiet (without TV, with respectful neighbors, on tree-lined 158th Street and Edgecombe Avenue, bordering Highbridge Park). It also happens to be gorgeous (see attached photos).

The immediate neighborhood is convenient in that my building is feet away from a bus stop, one block from the subway, two blocks from the library, and three blocks from the grocery store. You can zip to Columbia in 15-20 minutes by traveling four stops on the train…or you can take a leisurely two-mile walk downtown, rambling along the Hudson River.

If you’re interested in subletting, have questions, or would like to see more photos, please email me by Friday, July 4 at the latest and tell me a bit about yourself. I plan to finalize the sublet by Friday, July 11 (a month before I head to Mexico to write about sea turtles, which is why I’ll be away those last three weeks of August).

    Thanks!

I am matriculating into the M.A. in journalism in the biz/econ concentration, and need to relocate from my studio in Brooklyn to somewhere closer to school. I am 24, quiet but sociable, busy but friendly, tidy but not O.C.D. I have one small cat and lots of furniture that I can either bring with or toss, depending on the circumstance. Please do let me know if you’re looking for a roommate!

  31. Hi everybody,
I am an incoming student in the M.S. program, am currently hunting for apartments in New York, and would love to have one or two roommates to share a place with. I’m a 23 year old female from Massachusetts, clean and respectful, yet social as a housemate, non-smoker and occasional drinker. Aiming to find a relatively affordable place within walking/short biking distance to campus, for hopefully $900 or less per person. Let me know if you’re interested in rooming, and if you happen to be local, co-hunting! Preferred if you have a guarantor, but open to discussion if you don’t. Please e-mail anniejia at gmail dot com or call me at 650-704-4335

Alternately, if you know of available apartments or sublets in the area, I am very much open to hearing about them also.

    Thanks!
    Annie
